Wood work

logs cutLogs cut and ready to be used in something creative. A cherry tree ever so slowly dying.

Here is a tale of two woods. The chestnut poles – so wonderfully straight – were the ones we dragged from our lower land. The part below the road we rarely visit. It’s mainly a lovely oak forest that just needs to be left alone.  But on the side of the road there are chestnuts that are itching to be harvested.

Well, I like to harvest the straight regrowth for the garden. I think these are destined for the potager, or perhaps as dividers in the terraces so I can plant either side.  We shall see. cherry down

And this was the rather sorry sight that greeted me when I took a wheelbarrow load of sticks up for chipping.  The lovely old black cherry up beside the guest house is expiring. Branch by branch. This one huge part came down in the flood last week.  Poor thing. It will require some remedial chain saw pruning. And I must order some more black cherry trees to replace it. I suspect it won’t last many more floods or hard winters.
