My life as a trainee peasant in rural France

Ah, so that’s what you do with stale loaves of bread (answer: we feed them to the horses). In this section I will try to answer your questions about what it’s like to live in France. And to give you a snapshot of this extraordinary part of the world, and the characters who live here.

What you won’t find are many generalisations or stereotypes. I promise you never to claim any knowledge of The French. I don’t know every French person in France; nor how they drive, eat or think.

But after eight years, I am learning a bit about life in this rural village (population 373) in this agricultural region in a country that so many people dream about and promise themselves they will visit one day, or buy a holiday home, or even a build a new life.
