Ah, weeding
I’m not going to post the before pictures of this potager: it’s too shameful. Well, just one. It’s a riot of colour and weeds. And chaos. So with a half day free (heading down to the train later) I started in on the weeding. Off came the cloches and then I just started at the very first quadrant and kept my head down and my hands moving.
It looks so lovely when it’s done. But it never lasts. I will try and get some mowing done this week so I will have some mulch to add between these rows.
I have discovered to my surprise that I have beetroot and even turnips somewhere in here. Fancy.
Next up were the swiss chard plants – they are drooping in the heat. But I suspect they were being held upright by the weeds right underneath the plants for weeks now. I shall go and look in the early morning and see if they have perked up.
And after removing a row of my Charlotte potatoes, I decided to put in seven of the potting shed tomatoes. Lots and lots of mulch. Plenty of water and in they went. I even found some stakes to add. These were from the not so successful pea crop in May. Glad to recycle.
