Spring surprise

source flowersTwo lovely surprises up at our natural spring today: flowers and water. And I don’t know which is best.   I had sown some wildflower meadow mix way back in March just after a day of rain. And then forgot about the whole project as the drought hit and I assumed the seeds were lost and parched and inactive.

Oh yea of little faith.   Went up today and was greeted by this: a mini field of pinks and reds and whites. All flowering like mad in the crater left by the bulldozer. Lovely. crocosmia

And the other delight was a tank full of water. I can’t lift the lid on the heavy 12 cubic metre tank that holds the collected spring water. So I assumed it was empty. But no.   Despite the drought our plucky source is still running.   So to celebrate I naturally twinkled back down the mountain and turned on the taps.   The lower potager had a very surprised drenching.

It is growing right out of the base of the little spring that exists on this part of the property. And bless me, the tree was fruiting and the fruit was white. I guess it’s another left over from the days of silkworm production in the past centuries.   The tree looks like it has gone a few rounds with thunder and lightning but still fruiting. white mulberry tree in duck pond
