Season opener

Ah yes, August. That means stone fruit in this garden.   In this instance the green gauge / mirabelle cross trees we have in the shade garden near the potting shed.

We thought they were mirabelles, but really they are not quite small enough to be classed as such.   And there is a variety of plum around here called Reine Claude. Which roughly meets the green gauge equivalent.

I put the cloth down on the ground to catch the fruit. But the wasps and butterflies and flies can have those.   The ones I picked today are just a little under ripe. I feel a major chutney project coming along.   So slightly firmer and less picked about by bugs will do.

I have stoned 5.2 kilograms for fruit. They have been bagged and put into the fridge for when I have some spare time make something of them. And I suspect I need some more jars. Our local agricultural supplier is running out of my favourite size; so I might have to search far and wide. But we shall see. At worst I can freeze them and not feel the pressure to produce produce.
