The September scented delight

eleagnus floweringElaeagnus x ebbingei. An unremarkable shrub. Except it grows many feet each year in every direction, and surprises me every season.

And the main reason is its scent.

Each autumn and sometimes all the way into winter the shrub bursts into flower. Teensy white insignificant flowers. But they do pack a punch. I have five shrubs in the top hedge and it is making the plod from potting shed to top potager with endless pots of cabbage an utter delight.  I must remember to cut some branches and bring them indoors to keep the delight lasting a bit longer.
