Preparing the potager for spring day two

1arturguardingplantsFourteen beds down, three to go. I have had the most glorious day. Blazing sunshine and no wind. I wore a sunhat but three fleeces to keep out the cold.

I could pretend spring is in the air, but the soil is very cold to the touch. Luckily things were damp as well, so pulling out the few weeds in each bed was not hard.

The trickiest bit was not getting a rhythm; I kept coming across stray euphorbias and verbenas which needed to be moved elsewhere.

I transplanted half a dozen verbenas into the steep pool bank today. Adding to my tally.  And the euphorbias went to the potting shed into pots so I can give them away.  I have enough in the garden methinks.

It was 15C in the sun trap of the potting shed. And you can guess who was loving the warmth. He came and supervised for a bit, but I could see his eyes closing in the sunshine and he drifted off to put in some serious sleeping on the potting bench.

If all goes well I will finish the last three beds tomorrow. But the farm is a busy place and the leisure to sit down and weed in the sunshine might be denied me. We shall see.
