Happy memories

Mont Godin tourIt was so sad to hear the news that my uncle Peter Maccallum passed away today.  To have received the shocking diagnois of mesothileoma just six months ago, he bore his illness stoically.

All of you who knew and loved him would not be surprised to know that he was able to get all his affairs in order and managed his demise with dignity and very little fuss.

And all day I have been thinking of him and the happy visit he and Kay had here to our farm just a few years ago. I thought you might like to see some pictures of their time here.

Naturally, being a farmer, a gardener, and an active man, Peter couldn’t resist asking for a job while he and Kay were here. Trench digging 1

Here is the busman’s holiday in action.  He happily dug a huge trench for our soon to be lawn.

It may feel like a minor tribute to a man’s long life, but the results of his work that day are with us forever.  He managed to spread his expertise all the way to France.

Among so many things, Peter loved mowing his huge expanse of lawn in Quirindi in Australia, and next time I get behind our (much smaller and modest) mower, I shall think of him.

I’m sorry I won’t be able to make it to the funeral, but I hope to catch up with as many of you as I can later next month.
