And we’re back

Sorry about that. The electronic pause you have just experienced was brought to you by our dear friends at Orange. That’s France Telecom to you. My modem died.  And it has taken me two days and an 80 kilometre round trip to fix it.

Modems in our rural houses can expire for many reasons:  electric surges, lightning strikes, or they just give up the ghost.

My current modem has lasted a stunning eight months.
Pause for the dripping irony emanating from my fingers as I type.

But without further ado – and before the damn bit of electronics goes on me again. Here is today’s news.

***

You must know that ack ack gagging sound of someone biting into a bit of fruit and then finding the worm. I was spitting and hacking and hoping I didn’t swallow any grubs.

That will teach me for being greedy. And you might think, judging by the pictures that I was talking strawberries. But no. I was wandering past the radish bed and without thinking pulled one out and popped it in my mouth.

I was expecting the sharp crunch and zing of a pre dinner bite. But instead I went into something a bit slimy. And as I pulled the radish out to have a look I was staring at yeck brown and slime.

Arggghhhh.

Are all my radish similarly attacked? I’ll have to pull them up and check them very carefully before I make that same mistake. And it’s a shame as I love to grow things you can just munch on as you pass.

How else do I get my vitamins when I’m on the go? And believe me, after these few days of telephone wrangling and travelling to get back online, I need healthy and ripe, worm free fruit.
