A brief interlude

wood stack finalIt’s a mighty fine wood stack. And it took hours away from the garden. But I won’t be thinking of that when I’m warm and toasty with this fantastic stock of lovely wood.

I did manage one more quick quadrant of weeding in the potager. This is to be the future potato bed. And where I’ll hopefully put the tomatoes and aubergines.   Goodness that feels a long way off.   Today was stormy and windy and sleety and cold. No sign of spring. Unless you count the daffodils that are just about peeping out of the banks and long grass. potato quadrant done

second bean trenchI did one more bean trench in this part of the garden; it’s almost a routine now. Except I didn’t do much riddling or sieving. I just stamped the compost down into the trench.   And I have finished the top with the last bag of my Castorama mulch.

I have one more section to go.   But I want to go carefully as there are a lot of mache salad plants growing through the little weeds. I have a mind to transplant them so I can hoe like mad and get it tidy.   I felt awful hoeing some coriander seedlings by mistake this afternoon.   But it’s a bit of a scorched earth policy when you have cold hands and want to warm up. You just get stuck in and end up with a lovely bare earth.

Bare earth? Pah. There are weeds germinating under there just waiting to burst out.   Tomorrow I might just sow more seeds and add to the stock of things I want to cram in this lovely blank canvas.
