The calm after the storm

Yep. Another biblical flood. The second one in, I think, five weeks. The third one in a  year. flood courtyardYet another episode cevennol.  The weather was way too mild for this time of year. Add that to some mighty storms brewing up from Africa and wham. Poor old France gets battered yet again.

I waded out an hour ago to see if the rain gauge was still functioning. I poured out three inches because I am worried it will overflow by the time I reach it again tomorrow morning.

And boy is there a torrent rushing down the farm. I have pictures; but I can’t seem to get them off my camera and onto the blog. I will have to retro fit them when I can sort out what is wrong. [fixed nothing a hot shower and cold beer can’t sort out.] flood parking area 2

Right now I have more pressing ‘issues’ such as bailing out the basement bathroom.

I managed to do a good solid session behind the mower earlier this afternoon. It purrs now. And I raced along the orchard, the track, the duck pond, the main lawn and the walnut path.  Spots of rain were just starting to fall as I finished my last load of grass cuttings.

And the dear little cat couldn’t believe his luck; as soon as I walked into the shed the rain came teeming down. Stair rods and thunder and lightning and all sorts of drama.  I truly think the cat is a bit deaf; he didn’t even flinch when we had some rather impressive thunder claps right overhead.

He stayed on my lap and purred and didn’t even fuss that my trousers were soaking wet. I kept waiting for a break in the weather so I could scuttle inside. But after an hour of just sitting there watching a delighted cat snooze, I had to move. artur oct

Things to do. Flood defences to attend to. Fingers crossed it will calm down soon.
