Mass planting

For the first time in my life I have had an abundance of plants.   Here is my new little garden; which I have creatively (not) called the step garden. It’s in front of the terrace steps. Ergo.

I have decided to restrict the planting palette here to just three things.   Eragrostis curvula grasses, verbena bonariensis and gaura.

It might mean that it’s a bit uninteresting in winter, but I’m hoping the grasses will mask the paucity of plants then.   And in summer it ought to be a perfect drought tolerant bed.   Full of delicate colour.

It won’t suit this old stone house to have garish plants out in front.   So I have gone for thin tall whispy flowers.

But boy did I plant and plant and plant. I have nine grasses and a shocking 118 gaura and verbena babies.   Everything in this bed was grown from seed (such a boasting show off).

And now that it has a small border making use of all the stones that I unearthed while digging, it looks quite neat and tidy. For now.
