The top terrace oak

oak treeSo here is the beast. The lovely oak tree at the top terrace. I was determined to take a better shot that actually shows the tree. And not the random forest behind.

And what is that strange pile in front? Oak logs for this winter’s fireplace. Cut from the forest.

We throw them down from the oak glade further up the mountain. From here they get lobbed over the quince bank. And if all goes well, onto the east terrace. Rugby ball passing skills come in handy here.

We then stack them into wheelbarrows and plod up to the piles close to the house.  In the lean to at the east end of the house, or in the big pile in the barn. oak logs

Of all our logs, oak burns the longest, so they are the treasures of our stack.
