Surely these roses will stop flowering soon

There are repeat flowering roses, and there are roses which just never seem to stop.

It has been a good year for the roses… hmm, sounds like a song.

Have a look at my gorgeous Gertrude Jekyll roses; one or two still soldiering on so late in the season. They should have exhusted themselves into sullen silence months ago.

I keep wanting to give them a hard prune and put them to bed for winter, but not while there are buds on them still creating these amazingly scented treats.

And the red rose we inherited is even getting in on the act.  It has the most fleeting of perfumes and the petals are frankly leathery (you wouldn’t want to put them anywhere near your strawberry and rose petal jam).

But fetching nonetheless.
