Order from chaos

Well the vegetable garden is not that chaotic. It’s just that when some things are well watered, the weeds think it’s the best place to be.

I have pulled off each cloche and weeded the cabbages. All the while keeping a sharp eye out for cabbage moth butterflies that are desperate to lay their eggs.

Luckily they can lay eggs on other members of the cabbage family (I think honesty flowers are one of those) so I don’t feel that guilty they aren’t getting to my brassicas.

You can really see the swoosh of my leeks and marigolds here.   I had 100 extra leeks to shoehorn into the entire veggie garden. And it’s amazing how this space can swallow so many plants.

Now that bare earth is not going to stay that way for long. So I have to decide what to do. I have some flowers I can get in there: nicotiana.   And there are the basil plants that can go there too.

But I guess I’ll just keep the cloche off and make life a bit easier with a hoe in future.

I had hoped to get to the last quardant where the major swiss chard and courgettes are. But I ran out of time.   But I did get to put some extra mulch around the aubergine plants.   That ought to keep the worst of the weeds out for a bit.
