Iris season
I thought I would ease you in gently to this strange riot of colour this spring with this refined shot of the well-behaved irises in the barn garden.
We aren’t going elegant pastels for this first part of the iris story.
No. Let’s have some mad zing.
And this will be very brief as we are in the middle of a huge storm. Great gusts of wind and horizontal rain that is blowing straight at the house. The windows are rattling and I fear for our electricity supply.
So just have a few of these hilarious ones.
And a note to the plant breeders out there. If you want to create this mad mad colour, why not go for breeding very sturdy stalks as well.
One puff and over they go.
Great on the show bench, no doubt. Or in a well behaved garden. But on this mountain top….

OK, I defended the yellows last year but I can’t condone this sort of floppy behaviour. Do they need even harsher conditions? Less moisture? Is that even possible. Gale force winds here too yesterday, but the electricity and the internet stayed on. Heavy rain today. Where is Spring?

I couldn’t believe the electricity and internet stayed on here too! That was why I did short blog posts. I was certain the power would go off mid post. I think the irises bred this tall and garish are for the show bench in a tent where some judges would marvel at its colour and height. They are in harsh conditions already – they are neglected and under a mirabelle tree. Short of growing them indoors and forgetting to water them, I don’t think I could have neglected them better.
