Curious countryside objects
How on earth do you explain this one? We were walking on New Year’s Day in the Eyrieux valley – and on one of the mountain cols (shoulders) we came across this most curious sight. Yes it’s a boot in a birdcage. Right on the summit. I have no idea what it means or what message it is trying to send.
And it made me realise that when you look at some things through fresh eyes, there is another curious object in the country side. Why, Lauren asked, are there tin cans on the fence posts?
Why, it’s to protect the tops of the posts from rotting, of course. It does make sense. But I also like to think of it more poetically; each and every tin can is the perfect nesting site for a wasp or bee colony. Helps the crops.
