September bouquets

Isn’t that a darling little flower? It’s Callistephus chinensis ‘Lady Coral Light Rose’ and I bought the seeds from seedaholic.com, a Galway in Ireland seed company.

They are also called China Asters.

And it was recommended by my friend Sarah Bradley when she grew cut flowers in the next village. Her flowers were stonkingly tall. As befits a professional grower with irrigation.

I’m just thrilled mine flowered at all in our poor conditions. But flower they did this month, and I had enough from the three tiny plants to dry a batch as well. Barely more than a few inches tall in the vase, but cheering in those Dr Seuss colours and shaggy mops.

The rest of the bouquets this month were the usual suspects.

Good dahlias flowering at last after one drenching of rain early in September. The amaranth and agastache doing their filler best.

Plus some zinnias, also small.

And these lovely pom pom dahlias in a cheery red.

I would go out and check the label on the dahlia… except I’m in my yoga clothes and about to head off for a class. Downham Royal?

Yes, at long, long last I have signed up to do some proper work on aching muscles.

As a consequence Mondays feel very febrile after 90 minutes work.

I have learned my lesson; no two kilometre swims in the pool, no hauling logs, no heavy work.

Instead I get to do effete things such as stringing up dahlias to dry.

How about this nifty Muji drying rack. I think they are meant to be for drying your smalls.

I need another rack as it fills up fast.
