Wreaths for the festive season

Festive fun for all the neighbours.

I have enjoyed this wreath wrapping so much this week. But I have run out of pliable circlets.

So every forest walk will involve secateurs in the back pocket from now on. I need more clematis.

And maybe some willow. Or cornus. They make fun circles. I need to build up the stocks for next year.

So many of the clematis decorating the trees are too brittle now. You put all the effort into yanking them off impossibly tall trunks.

And then they snap as you try and form the right shape.

Luckily the ivy and yew works as a good dark green colour for the dried Helichrysum flowers I have been harvesting all season.

The garnet red go so well with the viburnum tinus berries.

And even the white and cream ones work.

I didn’t think the orange ones would be put to use. They are a tad garish. But add in some dried dahlias (Sylvia) and achillea and they just about work.

Not madly me. But it was fun to take them round and leave on the door of the new neighbours who have moved in down the mountain.

And mauve? A lavender sea lavender? Yes I know. Not a really festive colour. But I have bunches of the damn things.

I shoved them into a many a wreath.

Even the one on the front door.

And now if you will excuse me I’m off to harvest greenery for a few more. Bay and rosemary this time. And a shimmy up an old cherry tree that is festooned with ivy… but at quite a height. Wish me luck.
