Take a last look

roses mid juneIt feels awful leaving the roses.  Unlike English gardens where these old varieties thrive in the cool damp climate, mine are over in a short month.

It’s just too hot here to keep such beauties going.  But they are stunning this year.

I tried to work as often as I could up near the courtyard to enjoy the delicious perfume.

Here is my last little hare barrier at the top of the steps leading down to the potager.  It’s a sort of baby gate for critters. last fence

Next month I will find more of the thin whippy branches to add some horizontals.  But it has been a fun exercise.

Also fun was writing out my to do list which is perfectly reasonable and normal again.

I need to weed the raspberries and aspaagus beds, strim and mow the lower terraces as lots of self sown chestnut and cherry seedlings are pushing up along the path.

don't leave meAnd sort out how to protect the carrots and the parsnips from the dreaded mole rat.  And fun things like sowing lots and lots and lots of dwarf French beans.  I can’t wait.  But will have to wait until July.

And guess who doesn’t think my departure for London is a good idea?
