Springtime in the Ardèche

1fruit trees st laurentA frolic further south. I had a lovely Andrew day this week and just seeing the blossom on the fruit trees on the drive down was enough to have the spirits soaring.

These are the fruit trees in a small field in St Laurent du Pape. Cherries I think. I’ve never ventured close enough to check as the trees are on a hairy bend of the road which you always seem to have to negotiate with a huge lorry bearing towards you.

This time I parked and zoomed and managed to get off a quick shot.

It’s the same for the apricot trees in the Eyrieux Valley near Les Ollières.  I always gasp with delight as I catch a glmpse of so much pink through the trees. There must be at least 300 fruit trees in a few fields beside the river.2apricot trees

And right now their perfectly pruned shapes and blossom makes you want to linger. Which is not something you can do when you finally get to a flat stretch of road in the Ardèche. It’s just so incredibly rare that you have to put your foot down.

And besides, I have a two hour journey ahead of me and this is just the beginning of the trip.
