daff bouquetsDaffs. I always turned my nose up at yellow flowers. No idea why.  I think it might be because there are so many forsythia shrubs bursting out all over the place. And the word garish just doesn’t do it justice. A huge block of vile colour. Too much, too loud, too yuck.

But these early narcissus have been a pleasing surprise. I would rather have the gorgeous white Thalia narcissus which have only just started blooming all over our garden, but these Rijnveld’s early sensations come out just when you are despairing of brown and grey and green. daff detail

I gave away bouquets galore at the market this week. And I was even greeted with gush from Madame Courtial at the bread shop when I gave her a bouquet.  She even used the familiar form of address when she thanked me.  A stunning development in the integration of this foreigner in the rural wilds of France.
