Soft fruit season

Welcome to post number 2700. What an extraordinary milestone. (Are we allowed to be non metric here?)

This has been the best year for red currants. And white currants too.

Can you tell I’m having fun with my new features on my camera?

White currants have never looked so fetching.

We are picking like mad. And as the heat is not relenting, it’s a race to get them off the bushes and in the freezer.

Open freezing in metal trays for a few hours and then into the deep freeze in the basement. You can see them in the top shelf here…. I’ve run out of Tupperware to store them.

The currants are almost over now and we have done about half of our jostaberry harvest.

I picked almost three kilos today before it became too hot to work without wailing.

They are starting to get a bit sun burned, so I think it’s just a few more days of picking and then I’m calling it done.

Hmm. All that work to clean and sort the deep freezer and you forgot to change the labels on the Tupperware lids….

Have a shot of the delivery red currants instead.

I line the baskets with grape leaves first and then cram them in.

It’s like Little Red Riding Hood walking through the forest to Grandma’s house. Or in this case over to the next farm and into their summer kitchen.

When you actually have a brilliant crop it pays to spread the love.
