Potager pics

potager viewThis is the part of the garden where I spend most of my time. But forget to take pictures.

So I thought today I’d do a small tour.

Mainly because I did zilch in the garden at all today. The pool received more attention than anywhere.

And Artur didn’t really go for much affection so he didn’t get any attention. Just a chat in the morning and some plaintive wailing in the evening.  I was out the rest of the day.

So, back to the potager.  These chestnut grids did such a good job holding up the peas and broad beans earler in the season. runner beans

Now they are a great climbing frame for funner beans and cucumbers.

I despaired after the first few years of trying to coax the beans to climb up two metre high poles.  So now they only have to scramble one foot up and then they get a lovely horizontal run.

And it’s easier for me to pick.

I have runner beans going along most of the supports, but I can’t see any other climbing beans under the foliage. But that’s fine, there is a small forest of dwarf french beans in other beds. Which I have failed to photograph.

auberginesThe supports hold up the dahlias at the far end.  The ones that aren’t eaten by the mole rat.  And beside them are the mighty aubergines (eggplant).

I’ll be harvesting these beauties over the next two weeks. Perfect grilled over the barbecue coals.

And the herbs  are the best bit.  I never take them for granted. herb jar

And every few days I snip off a large bunch of sage, marjoram, a stong potent marjoram (eye wateringly strong), rosemary, thyme and mint and put them in a jar in the kitchen so I don’t have to stagger out into the night to add them to the evening meal.

Tomorrow I promise to do more in the garden and have more to say.
