Once more into the breach

evening rockThe pot of tea is just brewing and I’m up and raring to go for a good strimming session.  Well, I am still in my pjs and I haven’t had breakfast. But in my mind I am striding out to do battle with the brambles.

I have had a lovely two days off entertaining and being entertained by Robyn and her daughter Sylvia and friend Kirstie.

So great to catch up and spend time with dear friends.

But the farm awaits. The brambles still grow and I’m itching like made from the mites. Ah yes, I think I must have brushed past a colony of critters down at the vineyard a few days ago.  And, apart from dosing myself with antihistamines, distraction is the only way to go. strimmed potager

And now after lunch I have a spring in my step and a few more ticks off the list.

Top vegetable garden, the fiendishly difficult wall next to it. You have to hold onto the fence with one hand and strim with the other. And try not to bring down the rock wall.

And I strimmed the festuca glauca on top of the shade garden bank in preparation for a spot of excavating.

I may not have much skin left on my knuckles, but I’ve done a huge amount of work. This is the wall that abuts the shade garden. It is one of the usual fallen down numbers that just looks unsightly.

So while channelling our original wall builder, Nicolas, and I’ve given wall building a go.  All I had to work with were all the stones and pebbles that I dug out of the ground in front of the wall.  Obviously fallen bits. recycled rocks

I had piled them up on top of the wall and then just had to try and jigsaw them into place. Golly it’s tricky. But I’m pleased with the work so far.

I ought to take the exact before and after photo, but that would have involved a bit of planning and thought.  And believe me, this wall building lark is mind numbing and hard.  I’ll ty and capture the shot tomorrow when I’m fresh.
