Mole rats 1 soft fruit orchard 0
A spot of lavish watering today. The heatwave shows no sign of abating. We are enduring.
Week three of no rain? And temperatures over 30C each day? I do forget.
Thank goodness our water tanks from the spring water are not even half empty.
For the first time in a week I had a good look at the soft fruit bushes in front of the main potager.
Yep. Mole rats.
Aren’t they having their best year ever? Burrowing merrily under the roots. Enjoying the directed moisture I am giving the shrubs.
I can’t win. If I don’t cover this area with weed proof fabric I get a jungle.
If I do cover up, the mole rats have the most fabulous hiding spot from the hunters.
Well. Creature seems to be on her summer break too.
This is not a portrait of a mole rat menace.
Because of the heat I tend to flop after lunch and loll about. So these posts for the next bit are going to be short snapshots rather than essays.
And I the meantime all I can do without a hunter is to just water and hope for the best.
Thank goodness I have planted dozens of bushes so if I lose a few I won’t weep.
Now back to what I do every morning before the walk and the watering…
