Irises

I couldn’t think of a more interesting headline for this morning’s work.   But then, irises aren’t that madly exciting. Unless you have such a thicket of them that you can’t help but admire.   I don’t have  a thicket alas, more of a thinlet.   And they have only just been unearthed.

When I was mulching the small thin edge of the vegetable bed where the strawberries grow, I noticed a few irises growing out of the soil around the grape vines.   They are hopelessly situated, and growing all over each other in the tiny space.   So I decided to uproot them and put them in a place where they might thrive.

The courtyard was the obvious spot. There is plenty of room there.   And room for them to get their summer baking in among the gravel stones.   So I uprooted the lot and have tried to plant them sympathetically among the grasses on the edge of the courtyard.   I looks a bit thin and blah right now, but give it time. It might just look good in a few years time.
