Florid

flowers julyA florid complexion and the state of the garden.

It is still incredibly hot.

I’m back after six days away and things are fine.  At some stage there was some rain as I measured out half an inch in the rain gauge.

I’ve been able to do a fast water, and then have a quick pick of flowers.  My dahlias are starting to come into production nicely now. And the cosmos always please.

But instead of unpacking properly and writing up my Rousham weekend notes,  the whole evening has been spent making cordials.  cosmos late july

The power had gone off during a storm and Elodie kindly saved the defrosting fruit in the deep freeze.

But I had to move fast as they only had a day or so of life left in them.  Cherry cordial, jostaberry cordial, a mix of the two as I ran out of cherries, apricot and scented geranium sorbet. And I have set up a mix of jostaberries and sugar to steep overnight for jam tomorrow. I just need to pick another 700g of the fresh ones.

So on that brief and rather unsatisfactory note. I need to climb out of my pink stained clothes and get ready for a bit day in the potager.
