First jam

strawberry jamI am going to try and keep a better record of all the jams I make this year.  The season actually kicked off with cordial. I made a batch of elderflower syrup when Carla the photographer was here. It went down a treat.

And I’m thinking of adding something else to the next batch – maybe lemon verbena or mint.  (But fear not Sarah, I’m drying your lemon verbena leaves for your next tea fix.)

And the first jam off the rank: 12 jars of strawberry and rose petal jam. petals

It’s great now that I can cut endless roses off the bushes for jam rather than fetching photos.  This batch required 12 large roses.

And I’ll have plenty for drying as well.  This cold wet winter really suited the plants.

The cherries are way behind their usual fruiting season due to the long winter.  And the jostaberries are going to be weeks late. I think that’s what I usually make next.

001But things might come in a great whoosh and the mirabelles might drop at the same time.  And who knows, my poor plum trees might produce more than their usual 14 fruits.
