Fetching

yellow and orangeI’ve been filing my pictures into their correct folders.  And I realised that I didn’t post this rather fetching one of the flowers for the market last Thursday.

I never planned on so many yellow flowers in the cutting garden (flowers for the house) but the coreopsis grew of their own accord right where all my flowers get sown or planted.

So I’m going to stick with them. And they are a good partner for the rather stinky but pretty achillea gold.  dahlia lily combo

Add to that the tall French marigolds (from Andrew’s seed collection) some asparagus ferns for a bit of green and there you have it.

Oh, plus some zinnias and dahlias.  My tithonias – the stalwart of last year’s flowers for the house selection have been slow to come up this year.

I might have to sow them from commercial seed companies rather than relying on my own collected ones.  The germination was very patchy.

birthday liliesBut don’t the birthday lilies from Leslie look a treat?

I think all fifty of the lilies came up in their little pots. They had to endure the hottest conditions while in flower so the effect was a bit fleeting.

I must write on my To Do list a reminder to lift all the lilies out now and take the pots somewhere safe for the summer.

The mole rat is about and I don’t fancy losing these beauties to his voracious appetite for tubers and roots.
