En vacances – walking to the museum

It was pure chance. We were having dinner with other members of our group early in the trip and I happened to sit beside Bruce. He was amused that as a non-cyclist I was actually finding interesting places to walk and fill my day. He is a strictly two wheels on the road kind of guy.

‘There’s some sort of wacky museum hidden away in the forest not far from here.’

Now that had me intrigued. I was on the lookout for another adventure. And hopefully one that didn’t involve plodding near traffic.

He did warn me that he was actually thwarted in trying to reach the museum. He went around the coastal paths and found the way blocked by a golf course and a chainlink fence.

So with a bit of a look at the mystery museum website I decided the long way walking inland would be best. Even if it would take me two hours.

Who knew? Maybe the landscape would be ‘interesting’. And the traffic light.

And that is what it proved to be.

Well, there is no getting round the first hour of plod. But turn right at the appropriate small lane to the east of Alcudia and here I was.

In the bush.

On a dusty road with gorgeous walls (I have become a Mallorca wall super fan) and farms. Eventually I found the road getting wilder and more sparsely populated.

In fact the only traffic was this goat. Her mum had raced across the road moments before.

The vegetation was so different, so dare I say it, landscaped.

As befits a long, long road leading to a museum.

And I did finally come upon the very private golf club that had thwarted the coastal walkers.

I am not a golfer.

I am always gazing through a chain link fence. Decrying the loss of farming land or garden potential. And marvelling at the green of the greens, assuming the water required to turn a sport so lush and extravagant is depriving people a valuable livelihood. But I’m always keen to be disabused.

Goodness. The sea.

I had been walking for so long I had forgotten the island is never far from the ocean. And that gazebo in the far distance looked intriguing. I did wonder if I was going to walk all the way around in a curve and that was the museum….

And surely this road will come to an end.

Yep. We are definitely getting somewhere.

The entrance…

We are in.
