An unlooked for floral treat

A second flush. Of flowers this time. Far more exciting than any other flush. Al the gertie jeyklls in the courtyard are putting out a few flowers; and even the unloved deep red rose is flowering again.

I’m not one to lavish much attention on any plant; but I did give all these flowers a bit of rose feed last month after I pruned.

They are repeat flowering in Britain, but I give them the worst of growing conditions: heat, altitude and confined to pots.   But the scent is already pervading the courtyard and I’m delighted.

The other very unlooked for treat is the heavily and heavenly scented phlox which has decided to flower at long last. I think it was two years or so after it was planted.

It is tall as it has to fight for room beside a lusty and drought tolerant marjoram and is possibly a bit crowded.

I will see whether it needs a bit of a prune or a clear around the plant later.   Right now I’m just pleased that it’s flowering at all.   They love moisture. And this one is planted in the terrace bank which is dry, dry, dry.
