An iris hedge
It has worked.
I didn’t want to add yet another fence here on this farm.
But I did want to make a distinctive barrier between the lawn and the rather steep bank below.
Enter my favourite free plant.

The iris.
A damn fine easy care drought tolerant beast. And one that can be divided every few years to really bulk out your supply.
And now after starting this idea a few seasons back it looks great.

I am boasting. But there are enough flowering delights to make it arresting.
From every angle.

All I need to do now is divide the tall pale blue irises from around other parts of the garden and plant up another long row.
That way I will get a lovely succession.
And yes the flowers are fleeting. I think I will get less than a month of blue delights from this hedge. But then the foliage lasts all year. And truly, one good day of pulling out the spent leaves in winter and a bit of wrestling with the plants and you are done for a whole year.
