Wall work

stormForced indoors.  A sudden downpour and I almost outsprinted Artur to the house.

After a hot June and early July the temperature is fluctuating and we have had some lovely downpours.

This is what it looks like from the safety of the potting shed.

But I needed to come properly inside as it’s Tour de France distraction and I was ravenous for lunch.

And right now I’m having a bit of a lap fight. I need the laptop; Artur has other plans.

I let him win for a lovely warming ten minutes, but he is curently hissing in exile in front of the French doors.

I am only going to be indoors until this storm blows over, and then it’s back out into the courtyard.

I’m working on a big weeding project around the edge of the courtyard and the potager wall.  It’s mainly bramble work. And cutting back the rampant grape vines.  And therefore not madly photogenic.

First up the step garden.  This is the wall Nicolas built in front of the house.  I ordered Filippi lavender grosso plants to make a simple rock and shrub feature.

The plants have been watered just once a fortnight, deeply. And they have even started to flower.

But they are now finally looking like they belong in their space.thymedetail

I have to weed out errant bindweed and mini brambles that are trying to get established. And I have an annoying strawberry plant which has to come out. But for now, you get to gaze and admire as I do.

I’m weeding just above this spot and it’s refreshing to see such a simple design in among the busy ness of the rest.

Okay, the sun has come back out. The shower has ceased. Time to plunge back out to my weeds.
