This is prettier

the diminished pileThe huge pile of soil, rocks and mostly sand has diminished. As has my will to live. Only kidding, but this is very tiresome and wearisome work.

But I am so pleased with the results.

I have managed to fill in all four main paths in the vegetable garden, making it much easier to wield a wheelbarrow along the rows.  And bring them up to almost the same height as the long vertical paths.

Naturally I will need to cover the paths with weedproof fabric and then cover them all up with gravel. Have I said that before?  This repetitive work makes for repetitive thoughts. paths built

I didn’t whoop for joy when I heaved the very last bucket of soil on the very last path. But a very long sigh of relief did escape me.

I had enough of the original bark chips to be able to put around the central barrel.

I was on my  hands and knees picking them out of the blackberry beds about twenty feet below where they should have been. But at least they hadn’t gone further down into the impossible bramble beds.

Tomorrow I need to do a bit more clearing of the beds and maybe try and get as much compost onto the beds as I can. I have no idea how much of the good stuff is lurking in my falling apart compost bins.

aperatif trayAnd just to spare you a last of the year action shot of my dull as ditchwater  compost bins, I sign off with a shot of our nightly aperatif tray.

Accompanied this time by an appropriately festive glass of champagne instead of my usual cleansing ale.

Happy New Year. May it never flood on this farm again.
