Summer holidays begin

lauren cordilDear Readers; a pause. A break. A holiday.  I have been busily writing and gardening (and cooking) and photographing the adventures on the farm for eight years now. Daily.

This is my 1,772nd post.

And I have decided that I might just take a summer holiday from daily news.  This idea has been creeping up for a few weeks now as I struggle to find actual things to do in the garden with this heatwave.

You may have noticed that the garden is more observed than acted upon this past month.  And I seem to only be able to pick flowers, pick fruit and veg, and show you endless shots of drought stricken plants.

So I am going to restrict my news to the weekends for a bit.  And on Saturdays I will try to have a bit more news and action rather than just languid poses of me by the pool.

I have been busy entertaining house guests which has kept me out of the garden.josta tart

Here are some action shots of my lovely god daughter making jostaberry cordial, and then for an encore, her first jostaberry tart.

Thank goodness for gluts.

The plums are just ripening now so that will be the fruit next off the assembly line.

And in case you need your fix, I promise to be posting more news of Artur – he was very busy this morning helping me to water our neighbour’s asparagus bed.

It took ages as he kept insisting on drinking out of the watering can just when I was ready to heave it onto the asparagus plants.

The young asparagus, I must say, has done brilliantly in this drought and heatwave. Plucky little green fronds sticking out of the parched earth. I guess as they are planted so deeply they take a bit longer to start gasping.

So thank you all for being such loyal daily readers. I look forward to sending news on the weekend.
