Mushrooming on the mountain

chanterelles fridayThis was fun. We went for a walk  up to the top of the mountain with a cloth bag and a bit of hope that we might find some mushrooms.

And we came down with a huge haul of chanterelles.

Needless to say when we saw this monster lurking under an oak tree we decided to leave well alone.

But isn’t it a beauty. Goodness only knows what type of  mushroom or toadstool it is. It looks like it landed from another planet. monster shroom

We always find it strange that the chanterelles aren’t eaten by the wild animals that live on our mountain.  The wild boar will happily stir up the ground in search of underground delights, but never take the obvious fungus near the surface.

They sometimes push them aside in search of other fungus nearby.  And the deer don’t seem to eat them either.   More for us. Hurrah.
