Late flowering iris

iriscaramelWell they are late flowering for me. I’ve had a wonderful succession of blooms this year. The deep blue, the pale blue, the (ahem) ridiculous yellow. And now to complete the set meet the caramel coloured iris. And the stunning crimson.

I love the crimson. I could eat it. If I shook out the earwigs first. But ever since my episode with the wormy radish, I’m holding off eating my produce.

Because I didn’t buy the iris, the colours are a lucky dip. The yellows have become too top heavy and fallen over. Does that say everything about over breeding in the iris horticultural world? I ought to cut them all and place them in a vase and try and enjoy them indoors. falleniris

What I won’t be doing is cutting these crimson ones. I usually raid my garden in search of cut flowers for the market. But I’m not giving any of these away.
