Heavenly hedges

The one good thing about weeding the pool bank is the view you get of the huge miscanthus grasses that form a hedge on the edge of the lawn.

Oh that all my grasses would grow as well as these.   But I have a secret weapon. There is an underground spring at the base of the hedge.

They are almost six feet tall. And wondrously upright.

My other hedge I’m pleased with is the newest.

This is the cosmos and sunflower hedge at the edge of the potager.

I didn’t enrich the rather bare soil when we made the wall so I am delighted that things have worked out so well.

I do note, however, that the lower leaves look a bit parched.   So it’s not the fnal solution. I’m still erring on the side of a proper hedge.   I couldn’t get the miscanthus as healthy as the ones at right angles to the hedge.   And it would cost a fortune to plant up eight metres of soil.
