Harvests

front door sunflowersDays slip by but things still grow. Today I have dug another row of potatoes – two full buckets of spuds.   And ‘harvested’ heaps of sunflowers.

I have so many that I have filled one large vase for the front door, and another vase worth for the dining table.   I could keep cutting them, but I like to share them with the birds. late august

60mmAnd boy did we have rain. On Friday afternoon and evening we had a huge, huge storm. Think thunder, lightning and rain. Endlessly and violently. We had two hits on the house from lightning strikes. And my ears were ringing hours later from the blast.

The electrics suffered and need attending to.   But it’s a small price to pay every two years or so to live on the top of a beautiful mountain in rural France. It’s just a shame no one else shares the burden of being struck by lightning! cleared ratte row

It is the end of August, and I have given myself some stern must do tasks. All the potatoes need to come out of the ground. So no matter how warm or difficult it might be: I don my kneelers, take up bucket and spade and dig.

artur's sunday snooozeToday it was the row of Ratte potatoes up on the top potager.

I had my little helper for a bit. But it turned too warm even for Artur and he retreated to the potting shed where he gets the benefit of a cool breeze.
