A surprising visitor
I was poised to head down to finish off the fence that separates the potager from the lawn. I casually looked over to the pool and swiftly changed direction.
Australian snake instincts die hard. I retreated to a higher terrace and happily snapped pictures of our visitor as it slid its way across the pool cover.
Most thrilling. If a little alarming. I put him about three feet long.
I checked on the cat to make sure he wasn’t feeling reckless and in a hunting mode, and then chose another job.

oh yes, that was a surprise to me too. In six years I’ve only seen this one alive and one squished. It is apparently only a grass snake; so not a baddie. But it did make my heart beat rather fast.
