A change in one’s thinking

potager fillingI don’t know if it’s lateral thinking, but after yesterday’s fiasco of a day I have decided to do something about it.

What makes me happiest? Planting and watering. So that is what I did. I planted out five tomato plants (with sturdy stakes), dill, tithonia flowers to add to the nasturtiums in the planters and three small shrubs in the hedge.

That was a much better start to the day.  And I’ve decided just to keep my rain jacket on so I don’t get exasperated by all the downpours.

And then I watered in my dahlias, Teo’s new fruit bushes, and gave a bucket of water to the new buddleja, red currant and jostaberry bush I planteed up near the top road. hedge planting again

tomatoes plantedArtur came and joined me for that. His first and only outing from the potting shed. It was a bit like giving HMQ the silver spade and having the first sod turned.  Then it is handed back and the work goes on.  He managed to try and drink out of the bucket of water for the plants, tipped it over, soaked us both, climbed onto my lap with very wet paws, and then as soon as the heavens opened, scuttled back inside.

And I have done the equivalent; but mine involves a cup of tea, fresh rye bread and nutella. Whatever works.
