The dry garden in summer

Well hello. A new garden.

I haven’t shown you any action shots of this large garden area since the Great Mulch Event of late Winter

Things are coming along nicely.

I’m inordinately pleased that none of the plants have been uprooted by boar or badgers. Or buried under weeds.

I’ve done two quick passes with my kneelers and weeding gloves. And the only tricky plants to remove have been the ones in the path.  Elsewhere the plants are romping away with their thick mulch carpet.

And I have been feasting on the alliums for weeks and weeks.

Success. The achilleas are plump and interesting. I was worried that I have invested in plants I can find anywhere on this farm for free.  But they are definitely well bred varieties.

And everything survived the long cold winter. Even the South African kniphofias are doing well.

I read too late that they thrive in moist soil.  So my guess is this won’t be their final planting spot. But for now all is well.

Have a few pictures of the lush grass areas that bookend the garden.

I can’t believe how well they have done. A long wet spring will do wonders for grass under the ridiculous location of a huge pine tree.

And when I think back to the space this winter…. all that mad raking to try and get the ground level. The landscaping, the battling. No wonder I’m being a big show off this week.
